Karen and Pete are both business people and wanted a wedding which would be a bit different to the normal traditional wedding in the local church or Registrars Office. They didn't want the hassle of finding a venue, photographer, videographer or be burdened with working out catering menus.
The idea of a wedding abroad came to mind as they could get married and have a holiday (honeymoon) at the same time. Pete approached us and after a couple of short meetings with us the idea of a wedding in South-Africa became very appealing due to the climate, cost and only one hour time difference - no jet lag!
During the meetings we helped them decide on the venue theme, style and colour for the wedding. Karen chose an elegant contemporary wedding theme with a hint of vintage and wild Africa.
Karen wanted something on the beach and Pete wanted something with elephants so, on our advice they decided on a beach ceremony with musicians followed by a helicopter flight to a nearby Game Lodge where they had a photo session with elephants. Their guests were able to join them at the lodge for cocktails and sundowners after which they were all driven back to the Hotel for the evening dinner.
Karen and Pete book their flights to Cape Town and on arrival spent a few days sightseeing and shopping in the city after which they made the pleasurable drive to Mossel bay, visiting all the interesting villages along the way. They stayed over in Swellendam to split the 400 km journey in half.
On arrival in Mossel bay we met them at one of the beachfront apartments which was specially decorated with a wedding theme and stocked with lovely South African wine and cold beers, courtesy of SA Creative Weddings.
Pete and his friends stayed the night in the apartment while Karen and her maid of honour stayed in a Spa hotel for the evening.
On the morning of the wedding, Karen had her hair done by a local hairdresser at the hotel and was then picked up by a limousine that took her to the site of the ceremony on the beach.
Karen was chaperoned along the path next to the beach by her brothers and met Pete at the 'Beach Chapel' where the ceremony was conducted. This was followed by canapes and sparkling wine for the guests and a beach photo shoot. Afterwards they took the helicopter ride to the Game lodge for some more photos and Pete's elephant ride!
While waiting for the couple to finish their photo session, guests returned to the Hotel where they enjoyed canapes and drinks on the reception room's veranda overlooking the sea. The evening dinner was then served and guests could choose from 3 options of each course of starters, mains and desserts, finishing with tea and coffee. Guests were able to order drinks from the hotel's bar service. Speeches were done in between meal courses and the cake was cut afterwards. Background music was played and guests enjoyed dancing to this. After an exciting, memorable wedding day all retired to their hotel rooms. The following morning everyone met up for a sea-view breakfast and Karen and Pete started their exciting African honeymoon!
