South-Africa is a large country with well maintained roads and we would encourage visitors to hire a vehicle from one of the many internationally recognised car-hire companies, such as Avis , Hertz and Budget that operate throughout the country. Driving is on the left hand side of the road, as in the UK and international driving licences are acceptable.

Public transport is limited but taxi services are generally available. Most Hotels have shuttle services or can arrange taxis.

Many visitors take the opportunity to visit Cape Town for a few days and then drive the 400km to Mossel Bay visiting some of the interesting towns and fishing villages on the way. The journey can be split by staying over in Swellendam which is half way between Cape Town and Mossel Bay.

We strongly advise car hire as it is the only realistic way to visit all the spectacular places of interest.

Safety

Safety issues are always on the minds of tourists when travelling to a new country and we will be more than happy to advise you an all safety matters as they relate to South Africa in order to make your visit as hassle free as possible.

Health, Immunizations and Malaria

The following web site will give information on Immunizations and malarial areas in South-Africa: www.fitfortravel.nhs.uk

Please note that Cape town, The Garden Route and Mossel Bay are not malaria risk areas.

The closest airport to Mossel bay is George airport and is only 30 minutes drive along the N2 motorway which follows the coastline with spectacular views. International flights arrive at either Johannesburg or Cape Town airports and a short connecting flight (50 minutes from Cape Town and 1hour 30 minutes from Johannesburg) brings you to George.
